Notes: David Fairfield was the son of Jason and Hannah (Chandler) Fairfield. He was born in Pomfet, CT, February 2, 1829. He moved to California in 1854, eventually settling at the north end of Napa Valley in Knights Valley, near Calistoga. In the 1860 census, he is located in Long Bar, Calif., a mining community. On June 9, 1864, he married Ann Tate. He and his wife and children moved to Hayden Hill in Lassen County for several years during the 1870s, operating a gold mine there. In 1880, the Fairfield family was residing back in Knights Valley. In 1886, David moved his family to San Francisco to settle the estate of Ann's father, Robert Tate. His later years were spent in Hollister (San Benito Co.), where he died March 10, 1897. He is buried in the IOOF cemetery in Hollister (headstone placed in 2004 by his descendants).
